Make
a gift online to Darden.
In addition to gifts of cash, the foundation encourages gifts of stocks,
bonds, and shares of mutual funds. These gifts are highly
beneficial because the donor is entitled to a charitable deduction for
the full fair market value of the stock in the year of the gift. Gifts of appreciated stocks are
increasingly common and attractive since the donor will generally not
incur capital gains tax on stock given to Darden.
Securities
are the most common form of property given to non-profit institutions.
The Darden School encourages gifts of stocks, bonds, and shares of mutual funds.
With a gift of appreciated securities held for the required
holding period, donors are entitled to a charitable deduction for the
full fair-market value (FMV) of the stock in the year of the gift.
The FMV is determined by the mean of the high and low sales
prices on the date the stock is given to Darden.
The charitable deduction is limited to 30 percent of the
donor’s adjusted gross income with a five-year carryover for any
amount that exceeds the 30 percent limitation.
Gifts of appreciated stocks are particularly attractive since the
donor will generally not incur a capital gains tax on stock given to
Darden.
