    Lisa Cannell ProfileLisa Cannell was appointed managing director in July 2017. As managing director, she collaborates with Darden faculty and leaders on talent management research and solutions for corporate partners. She also advises and represents the dean's office on critical talent initiatives for the enterprise.

    In her prior role as chief human resources officer, Cannell collaborated with Darden leadership to ensure timely planning and execution of talent priorities in an effort to advance Darden’s mission of developing and inspiring responsible leaders. She provided unique strategy insights related to talent needs, educated non-HR leaders regarding their decisions about human resources, and articulated the logical connections between strategic success and the organization’s ability to compete for, motivate and retain its talent. Cannell oversaw the HR team in talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, employee relations and training for the Darden School and Darden School Foundation.

    Prior to Darden, Cannell held positions at State Farm in training and development, field human resources and corporate human resources. She also managed an HR staff at a regional office overseeing 5,000 employees. She led human resources at SNL Financial, an information services firm, where she revamped the compensation structure, influenced leadership development of a young management team, and supported the company’s expansion of personnel in offices in India, London and Pakistan. Following SNL Financial, Cannell served as chief human capital officer for StellarOne Corp. and its predecessor companies from 2006–14.

    Cannell graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her MBA from the Darden School. She earned her Charted Property Underwriter Designation, holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute and a certificate in Organizational Consulting and Change Leadership from Georgetown University.
