Murphy

Notre Dame Patrick E.
Murphy, the C.R. Smith Director of the Institute
for Ethical Business Worldwide, has been a
member of the Notre Dame faculty since 1984. He
served as chair of the Department of Marketing
from 1990-93 and 1994-2001. During 1993-94 he
was a Fulbright Scholar at University College
Cork in Ireland. Prior to Notre Dame, Professor
Murphy was a faculty member and Marketing
department chair at Marquette University in
Milwaukee. He holds a B.B.A. from Notre Dame, an
M.B.A. from Bradley University, and a Ph.D. from
the University of Houston.
Professor Murphy
specializes in business and marketing ethics.
His work on these topics has appeared in the
leading ethics and marketing journals. He is
currently revising Eighty Exemplary Ethics
Statements (Notre Dame Press, 1998) and an
earlier book on marketing ethics. Murphy was
named in 1997 as one of the top researchers in
Marketing for sustained contribution to the
field. His articles and cases have received
awards from Journal of Macromarketing and the
European Case Clearing House.
He has been extensively
involved in professional service activities and
is an Academic Advisor with the Business
Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics.
Professor Murphy served as editor of the
Journal of Public Policy & Marketing and is
currently section editor for marketing ethics at
Business Ethics Quarterly and on the
editorial review boards of five journals. He has
also held a number of leadership positions in
the American Marketing Association and is a
frequent lecturer on business and marketing
ethics.
