  • CKGSB Partnership Creates Global Ties and Innovative Mindset for Chinese Executives

CKGSB groupExecutive Education hosted a second cohort of 30+ high-level Chinese executives from the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) from 1-5 November 2015 for a custom Advanced Management Program.

A leading Chinese business school based in Beijing, CKGSB partnered with Darden Executive Education to deliver a custom program that focused on innovation and driving business growth for Chinese CEOs, presidents and executives from a broad array of industries.

During their residency at Darden, the cohort visited Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, to introduce the themes of innovation and leadership, studied organizational success stories and failures related to growth and innovation, then put this new knowledge into practice using Design Thinking tools.  In addition, they were challenged to think about how technology is reshaping and disrupting industries and met with IBM's Master Inventor and Cloud Evangelist, Rick Hamilton

Professor Dennis Yang, academic director of the Asia Initiative and an expert on the Chinese economy working in Darden’s Global Economies and Markets area, served as faculty lead for the program, working alongside many of Darden’s top innovation-focused faculty — Professors Jeanne Liedtka, Ed Hess, Mike Lenox, Ron Wilcox and Robert Carraway.

On 5 November, Dean Scott Beardsley addressed the program to emphasize the importance of companies connecting across international borders in today’s global economy.

A Blended Learning Marketing Solution for SAP

In the fall of 2014, SAP — the German multinational software corporation at the center of today’s technology revolution — turned to Darden Executive Education for a custom online program to optimize its marketing performance.

The timing was tight; the company wished to begin delivery of the program to around 30 experienced marketing professionals in the United States and Europe just two weeks later.

A Darden team, led by Senior Director for Executive Education Steve Schwartz, sprang into action. Professors Ron Wilcox and Raj Venkatesan — two of Darden’s marketing experts — created an innovative blended teaching program: an online series of seven courses titled "Data-Driven Marketing Strategy." The courses were tailored to address SAP’s specific needs and were delivered through a blended model, combining live distance learning classes, online courseware and virtual group discussions.

"This is one of our highlights of the year for education and training."  – Fred Isbell, Senior Director, SAP Services & Support Marketing

The SAP team wished to leverage the insights provided by the latest in marketing analytics. Topics addressed during the course included: social marketing, buyer behavior, marketing resource allocation, short experiments, data-driven marketing, propensity models and the internet of things.

"SAP Services & Support Marketing worked with the Darden School of Business Executive Education team for a tailored team training program for our global services & support marketing team. Focused on SAP data-driven marketing and strategy, we leveraged a virtual format to deliver classes on-line for our world-wide marketing team across multiple regions and time zones. The format worked great, the delivery by Professors Ron Wilcox and Raj Venkatesan was outstanding, and the team found the program to be both highly educational and thought provoking," said SAP Global Vice President of Marketing Shawn Reynolds.

In February, SAP polled its marketing team about their educational preferences for 2015, and 100 percent of them indicated that they would like to take additional courses from Darden. SAP and Darden are now partnering on the delivery of an additional series of “live” classes that will be delivered in May 2015.

"We are now planning a new phase of this for the team for this year, with additional focus areas supporting key strategic topics and marketing focus areas for SAP in 2015. The Darden School of Business Executive Education team has been great to work with and our team agreed that this is one of our highlights of the year for education and training," said SAP Services & Support Marketing Senior Director Fred Isbell.
