In between residencies, distance learning keeps you connected to the University of Virginia Darden School of Business community and engaged in the academic experience. What does distance learning include?Approximately one-third of the Darden Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) curriculum is delivered via distance learning in the following ways:Online ClassesLike every aspect of the GEMBA program, your online classes are high-engagement experiences. The Adobe Connect technology allows you to Interact with your faculty and fellow classmates by sharing screens Write in comments and questions in real time Participating in the discussion by conference callBecause of the ease with which the interface allows you to share and analyze content and spreadsheets as a group, your professors often use online classes to focus on technical issues, allowing for a richer discussion when your class meets together in person.Online class times are rotated to accommodate students from different time zones. Recordings of online classes are also available for students who are not able to attend the live class sessions. Typically, online classes are scheduled two to three days per week.Virtual Group MeetingsPrior to the online case discussion with your entire cohort, you will meet virtually with your learning team to prepare the case, share perspectives and resolve questions. Occasionally, you will work on team projects as a group as well. The same software used for online classes is available at any time for group work and allows you to share documents and edit collaboratively.Independent Projects and DeliverablesBetween residencies you will also work on and submit independent projects and exams.Distancing Learning VideoLearn more by watching the following video of Professor Paul Simko who describes distance learning in Darden's executive-format MBA programs: Distance Learning as Practice for Managing Global TeamsIn a guest blog post, " Distance Learning and Managing Teams Across the Globe," GEMBA student Masa Uzawa describes how the distance learning portion of the Darden Global MBA for Executives is helping him become a better manager and leader for his global teams:"Because the distance learning component of GEMBA requires me to attend distance learning classes and interact with my learning team in online meetings twice a week, I receive real-time practice in communicating effectively across the world, making me a better manager to a global team."Read the full post.
