Biography
Associate Professor of Business Administration Erika H. James teaches First Year Leading Organizations at Darden. She continues to conduct research in the areas of crisis leadership and workforce diversity and has published in several leading academic journals including Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Academy of Management Journal. Her research on crisis leadership is also evident in her upcoming new book, Leading Under Pressure: From Surviving to Thriving Before, During, and After a Crisis which is expected to be published early 2010.
In her work with executives she conducts seminars or consults on how to make decisions under pressure and how to build trust in the workplace. And she has impacted several Fortune 500 companies such as Intel, Freddie Mac, Johnson & Johnson, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Merrill Lynch, and Farmers Insurance.
James joined the Darden faculty in 2001. In addition to teaching, she pioneered a new position at DardenAssociate Dean of Diversity, in order to create a more diverse and inclusive environment for faculty and students. Prior to this appointment she served on the faculty at the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and the Goizuetta Business School at Emory University.
