Biography

Paul J. Simko is Associate Dean of the MBA for Executives Program and Associate Professor of Business Administration at the Darden School of Business, the University of Virginia. His research centers broadly on issues related to financial accounting information; he has received numerous national and university recognitions for his work. Professor Simko is particularly interested in topics related to how alternative accounting treatments affect the decisions of investors and financial analysts, and how investors assess firms’ earnings quality. His current research examines the incentives and consequences of earnings management, and valuation issues pertaining to earnings volatility and growth. He teaches courses in both accounting and financial statement analysis.

Prior to joining the Darden School faculty in 2002, Simko taught at Emory University, Indiana University, and INSEAD. He is currently a research fellow with The Enterprise Risk Management Initiative at North Carolina State University, has worked as a Senior Analyst with Citicorp, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
