In an informative and interesting ceremony, the Thomas Jefferson Statue and Jones Fountain were officially dedicated this morning at the Darden School of Business. To view the event, click here. The sculpture and fountain are gifts to Darden from the School’s Class of 1974.
University of Virginia President John Casteen addressed the audience seated around the sculpture and fountain in Flagler Court. Casteen discussed the Jefferson statue at the University of Virginia at Wise. He said that statue has motivated students there. He said he expected the sculpture at Darden to do the same here. Casteen also commended the sculptors for their attention to detail. The new sculpture at Darden is the only one of its kind. It depicts Jefferson at the age of 74 surveying the land that became the University of Virginia.
Darden Dean Bob Bruner served as master of ceremonies for the event. Other speakers included Elizabeth Chew of Monticello, Sculptor Rob Firmin, and Gary Jones and Jim Kluttz of the Darden Class of 1974.
