Darden Professor James Clawson gave the keynote address to over 300 residents of Winchester, VA, this week to kick off the city’s 82nd Apple Blossom Festival. Clawson’s participation in the festival was largely organized by Dena Kent, wife of Darden alumnus, Jim Kent, ‘91.
The title of Clawson’s talk was “Rock Solid Leadership in Turbulent Times,” which he presented during a luncheon. Clawson told the gathering, "Whenever a business person, or a politician, or a religious leader, or a new budding MBA starts talking about 'what can I get out of society' the red flags go up for me. What we ought to be paying attention to is what you are building for the next generation, what is your legacy going to be," he says.
Randy Collins, president and CEO of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber of Commerce, who invited Clawson to speak, said Clawson’s message was uplifting. "It was a timely message, and he knows a lot about the business community and the economy. He came very highly recommended."
Following his talk, Clawson was interviewed by the local ABC television affiliate. http://www.tv3winchester.com/home/headlines/44097322.html
