When students, faculty, and staff arrive at the Darden School of Business, it doesn’t take long for them to see something familiar. A walk down the main hallway of Saunders Hall, and they will see the flag of their home country.
The display, which features 64 flags, has been updated for the 2009-2010 academic year. For years, Darden Prof. Sherwood Frey has taken care of the display, making sure the country of origin of each student, faculty and staff member is represented.
“This display is intended to celebrate the marvelous geographic diversity of the Darden Community and to serve as a symbol of the School’s inclusiveness,” Frey wrote in an e-mail to Darden faculty and staff announcing that the display had been updated for the new school year.
Four spots are currently open in the display in case a temporary flag needs to be added for a Darden guest or a multi-week Executive Education participant.
The flags are arranged in alphabetical order, alternating from side to side, down the main hallway and into the side hallways. The countries represented in the Saunders Hall Flag Display include:
