Garden Club to Hold Forum at Darden

The Garden Club of Virginia will hold its 51st annual Conservation Forum at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business in Charlottesville, November 6. Darden Professor Richard Brownlee will welcome the attendees on behalf of the School.

The forum will address critical issues facing the state today: sustainability, land use, urban design, housing, transportation and economic development. Academic, government and con-servation leaders will offer creative strategies by which cities and towns can fundamentally reduce their ecological footprints while also becoming more livable, economically viable places.

A panel discussion will address planning for Virginia's urban and rural communities. The moderator will be Coalition for Smarter Growth Executive Director Stewart Schwartz, who will make the case for urban revitalization, transit-oriented development, affordable housing and more walkable communities.

The forum is open to the public although advance registration is required.

The registration fee is $16. Students and UVA faculty with appropriate ID attend free. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., and the forum starts at 10 a.m.
