Women in Technology Panel Announced
The incredible growth of social media has provided many outstanding opportunities for technologically-minded entrepreneurs. Five women who work in the industry will participate in an upcoming panel discussion at the Darden School of Business.
“Women in Technology” will take place on November 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Darden’s Abbott Auditorium. The event is open to the public.
“Women are somewhat of an invisible population in technology entrepreneurship,” said Martin Davidson, Darden’s Associate Dean and Chief Diversity Officer. “But you’ll quickly learn how important women are in this industry once this panel discussion begins. This will be an eye-opening night.”
Davidson said the rise in social media has encouraged and enabled new business strategies and models.
“Our panelists approach new media in a variety of ways based on their businesses, strategies and audiences,” he said. “It will be interesting to see the differences and commonalities when it comes to how each panelist employs and approaches new media.”

Mary Spio, Founder and President of
Gen2media, created the digital media technology behind Star Wars Attack of the Clones, Ocean’s 11, and Planet of the Apes.
Adrienne Graham, Founder and CEO of
Empower ME! Corporation, a professional networking company for women.
Shireen Mitchell, an entrepreneur who is also chair of Media and Technology Task Force of the National Council of Women’s Organizations.
The event will be moderated by Sonya Donaldson, editor-at-large for technology, Black Enterprise Magazine. Paul Harper, Darden’s director of special programming in diversity will serve as the host www.darden.virginia.edu.
