Application Procedures

U.S. and P.R. First Year Check List

  • Electronically file FAFSA online by May 22.
  • Electronically file the 2009-2010 University Financial Aid Application for Federal Loans by no later than May 22 by accessing the University Student Information System using the login information provided in the status change area of the Darden applicant website.   Apply & sign promissory for Federal Stafford Loan with a lender of your choice by May 22.   • For students interested in searching for available private loans, one source is www.CertifiedPrivateLoans.com.  This website allows you to compare private loans from up to ten different lenders.  You may also wish to go to www.finaid.org and search for "private student loans."
  • Print and file Appeal for Reconsideration with an official letter of separation from employer, and any other requested changes to student budget, such as family healthcare or child care costs with associated costs bills or receipt by June 30.

Part One: Federally Guaranteed Financial Aid (for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

Electronically file the 2009-2010 University Financial Aid Application for the Federal Loans by no later than May 22 by accessing the University Student Information System using the login information provided in the status change area of the Darden applicant website. You must list your chosen lender and lender code as well as a guarantor and guarantor code. http://www.virginia.edu/financialaid/loans.php#Lender

In order to be considered for the maximum amount of subsidized Stafford Loan available, you must submit the request for Professional Judgment along with your letter of separation from your employer.

FAFSA

Darden students receive Federal Financial Aid in the form of subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans. The University of Virginia's Student Financial Services Office administers the Federally Guaranteed Loan program. All loan applicants must submit the UVA Graduate Financial Aid Form to the University of Virginia's Student Financial Services Office via the Darden School and the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) to the federal government. The University requests the filing of the FAFSA by May 22.

After January 1, you may fill out the 2009-2010 FAFSA form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need to file for an electronic signature in advance of your submission or you must print out a signature page and mail it to the government to activate your assessment.

Part Two: Supplemental (Non-Subsidized) Third Party Loans

Darden students may use a supplemental loan to meet the total Darden budget. For students interested in searching for available private loans, one source is www.CertifiedPrivateLoans.com.  This website allows you to compare private loans from up to ten different lenders.  You may also wish to go to www.finaid.org and search for "private student loans."
