Tayloe Murphy Resilience Awards Competition
The 2010 competition is now closed; deadline was June 30, 2010
The Tayloe Murphy Center Resilience Awards Competition wants to salute and support winning businesses with:
Statewide publicity for your business.
Introductions to lenders, investors and others in Virginia's business community.
A fully funded course worth between $8,000-$12,000 at Darden's Executive Education program.
This is a statewide competition targeting strong, resilient businesses located in communities facing tough economic conditions. Against the odds, these businesses and their leaders have been providing jobs and offering community support while facing challenges that would have made less enterprising leaders give up.
If you win, we will work closely with you to help find the right Executive Education course that meets your business needs and works with your busy schedule.
Resilience Awards finalists and winners will be promoted throughout Virginia as outstanding models of success.
Does your business have what it takes to win?
- Is your business located in a community facing pressing economic challenges? (With high unemployment, high poverty and low self-employment; scroll down to the map at the bottom of the page and enter your zip code to find out.)
- Have you been in business for five years? Can you show growth?
- Do you have more than one employee?
- Does your business support your community?
- Are you in manufacturing, agriculture, retail, service or wholesale?
The application deadline was June 30. Finalists will be announced in August and winners announced September 1.

What are people saying about the Awards?
* If you are selected as a finalist:
Finalists will be asked to submit relevant tax forms dating back to 2006 and any professional audits. Audits are required when a business pursues financing, and we hope that our finalists and award winners will be able to pursue lending opportunities to continue building their business. If you don't have audits but still meet the other requirements, we still want to see you in the applicant pool.
We are no longer accepting applications for 2010. Please check back soon for details on next year's competition.
