Volunteer Leadership Award Winners

Volunteer Leadership Award Winners

Each year Darden recognizes the alumni volunteer leaders who have made significant contributions in their roles as class officers and chapter leaders. The award recipients and all volunteers are celebrated during Leadership Roundtable weekend in October.

Volunteer Leadership Award Winners

The awards below recognize volunteers and classes who did outstanding work in the 2013 fiscal year. Many thanks to all of Darden’s volunteers. Your hard work strengthens every part of the Darden experience.

2013 Outstanding Secretary
Secretary who went above the call of duty in supporting the School and his or her class

Robert L. Gaines (MBA ’63)
Rob is ever-dutiful in his role as class secretary, always submitting comprehensive and timely Class Notes for The Darden Report. More than a year before the 1963 50th reunion, Bob began encouraging classmates to save the date through quarterly newsletters and phone calls and even attended the 2012 reunion so that he could share what to expect when they arrived on-Grounds in April. His efforts resulted in 53 percent reunion attendance — a 32 percent increase over five years ago.

2013 Outstanding Class Officer Team
Agent and secretary team who worked together seamlessly throughout Reunion to achieve successful giving and attendance

Evan Inra and Pace Lochte (Both EMBA ’08)

Evan and Pace were committed to setting the bar high for future MBA for Executives classes in their fifth reunion by recruiting a dedicated committee focused on attendance and annual fund participation. The class achieved 44 percent reunion attendance; 52 percent Reunion lass Giving participation, a 53 percent increase over 2012; and raised $20,566 — nearly $12,000 more than in 2012.

2013 Outstanding Domestic Chapter Leader
Chapter leader who went above the call of duty in supporting the School and chapter

Stephanie Yeung (MBA ’12)

Darden Atlanta Chapter
Within months of moving to Atlanta following graduation from Darden, Stephanie volunteered to be the new Atlanta chapter president. She immediately began planning events and designed a chapter plan with an event scheduled for every month. Stephanie is an excellent communicator and never fails to ask great questions, include others and think creatively. Event attendance has steadily increased and now more alumni are stepping up to volunteer their time planning chapter activities. She is largely responsible for cultivating this new energy and commitment to Darden.

2013 Outstanding International Chapter Leaders
Chapter leaders who went above the call of duty in supporting the School and chapter

Jerry Peng (MBA ’03), Darden China Chapter (Beijing)

Shaojian Zhang (MBA ’99), Darden China Chapter (Shanghai)
Jerry and Shaojian brought together Darden alumni living in China to form the Darden China Alumni Association. They actively collaborated with the U.Va. Clubs in both Beijing and Shanghai, effectively advancing the Darden brand within the University community. Along with Baocheng Yang (MBA ’04) and Han Bing (MBA ’06), they organized and led a remarkable outreach effort that inspired 64 percent of alumni in China to participate in the 2013 Annual Fund. These fantastic results represent an unprecedented high for this group and an increase from 39 percent participation in fiscal year 2012.
