From the early 1950s to the present day, philanthropy has been an essential part of the Darden School. At the forefront of Darden’s fundraising efforts is the Darden School Foundation.
Darden alumni and friends have continuously stepped forward to demonstrate their commitment and loyalty to the school through annual gifts to the Annual Fund, class gifts and significant leadership gifts.
Principal Donors to Darden
The School’s premiere designation for lifetime giving is the Principal Donors to Darden. It recognizes and honors alumni and friends who contribute funds totaling $1 million or more in cash gifts to the school.
In recognition of the extraordinary support of our Principal Donors, their family or foundation names are place in the entablature frieze of the Rosenblum Entrance Hall and PepsiCo Forum. In Saunders Hall, the following names are inscribed on the room’s crown molding: Armstrong, Batten, Bigelow, Daniels, Darden, David, Duffy, Fitt, Genovese, Goodwin, Jones, Killgallon, Lewis, Lockhard, Macfarlane, Mayo, McCullough, Saunders, Siegel, Termeer, Todd, Wilkinson and Worell.
Generous donations from alumni and friends have shaped the school through endowed professorships, scholarships and funds for leading-edge research, case writing and course development.

In 2003, Darden embarked on a strategy of financial self-sufficiency. This means that the school receives no money from the University of Virginia or the Commonwealth of Virginia.
While financial self-sufficiency grants the school greater flexibility, it also puts responsibility on the school to continue to admit the best students regardless of their financial resources, to effectively manage endowment returns, to allocate resources in line with Darden's strategy and to continue to raise unrestricted operating dollars.
Funded and fortified by gifts from donors, Darden’s endowment is a perpetual source of strength for the school. Your support will enable Darden to continue moving forward as one of the top business schools in the world.
