The Charles C. Abbott Professorship of Business Administration honors Charles C. Abbott, the first Dean of Darden, whose leadership brought the School to a position of prominence. As the Converse Professor of Banking and Finance at the Harvard Business School, Charles Abbott was first consulted by the University and the Sponsor Trustees regarding the establishment of the Darden School of Business. His cogent advice in these formative stages convinced the sponsors that he should be the school's first dean. Established by an anonymous donor, the professorship has been supplemented by the Class of 1959.
