Frequently Asked Questions

Who can become a BRAD Lab participant?

If you are a University of Virginia undergrad or grad student and are 18 years or older, you can join the BRAD Lab participant pool.

How do I become a BRAD Lab participant?

To sign up for the BRAD Lab Participant Pool, fill out the short form on  http://darden.sona-systems.com/student_new_user.aspx . Please enter your UVa e-mail address, so that we can verify that you are a UVa student.

What happens after I sign up for the Participant Pool?

Once you sign-up, you may be contacted by researchers as BRAD Lab studies become available. It is up to you to participate in any study. Becoming a member of the Participant Pool doesn’t in any way obligate you to participate in a study. It just means that researchers will contact you.

How do I sign-up for studies?

To sign up for studies, log in to your account SONA account at  http://darden.sona-systems.com . Then click on the Study Sign-Up link to see the list of available studies. Click on a study name to learn more about the study and to sign-up for a timeslot.

What compensation can I expect from participating in BRAD Lab studies?

Compensation depends on the type and length of study. The majority of our studies pay $5-$25. When you are invited to a study, you will always be informed of the compensation type and amount. Note that in some studies, compensation will not be a fixed amount but be determined by your performance during the study. If so, you will be informed of the expected range of compensation in advance. In other studies, you may be entered in a lottery. In those cases, you will always be informed of the odds of winning the prize.

What are my rights as a member of the BRAD Lab Participant Pool?

As a member of our Pool, you are entitled to ethical and respectful treatment. You can withdraw your participation at any time. All BRAD Lab studies are approved by University of Virginia’s Institutional Review Board. If at any time you have questions or concerns about your rights or welfare as a research participant, please contact the UVa Institutional Review Board (IRB) at (434) 924-5999 or e-mail  irbsbshelp@virginia.edu .

How can I remove myself from the BRAD Lab Participant Pool?

If you would no longer like to be in the Pool, e-mail  BRADadmin@virginia.edu  from your UVa e-mail account, with the subject title unsubscribe.
