 2011 Darden Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Conference

The second annual Darden Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Conference will bring together leading scholars in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. This event will advance research in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation and explore the implications of these fields’ evolution.

 

 

 2010 Darden Entrepreneurship Conference

"The Life Cycle of a Start Up" began with the annual Concept Competition on November 11th followed by a full day of alumni panels moderated by Darden faculty on November 12th exploring such themes as: "What Do You Need to Start a Business?", "Funding," and "Managing Growth." Afternoon workshops for those who sought assistance with entrepreneurial ideas were held on"What's Your Idea?" and "Pitch Development and De-Risking" followed by an "Informal Pitch Session." The conference was attended by approximately 250 Darden alumni and students, as well as students from other U.Va. schools.

 

 

Entrepreneurship in Israel Conference

The Batten Institute held an engaging conversation chaired by Professor Gal Raz with business leaders, policy experts, and Israeli entrepreneurs to discover how US entrepreneurs can benefit from Israel’s successes. The conference’s panel discussions and workshops explored two themes: A) What has driven Israel’s success as a breeding ground for entrepreneurship and innovation? and B) How can innovation and technology cooperation between the US and Israel benefit both countries, and particularly how can US learn from Israel’s success? The afternoon’s company briefings were with three Israeli founded firms, followed by a Networking Reception.

 

 

2010 Darden Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Conference

The inaugural Darden Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Conference brought together leading scholars in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. This event advanced research in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation and explored the implications of these fields' evolution. This conference series is sponsored by Darden's Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.  

 

Entrepreneurship in Emerging Regions

The Batten Institute seeks to foster entrepreneurship in emerging regions through various means, including entrepreneurship curriculum development, sponsorship of entrepreneurial forums locally and abroad, regional collaborations and research partnerships, conferences and educational materials created for educators and practitioners. Through the work of Darden Professor S. Venkataraman, the institute has extended the international reach of Darden's work in entrepreneurship. In partnership with the Journal of Business Venturing and the Indian Business School, the institute co-sponsored a December 2006 conference on Entrepreneurship in Emerging Regions in Hyderabad, India. The Journal of Business Venturing (JBV) published a special edition based on the materials generated at this event. 

  

Emerging Markets Conference Series

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia

The institute partnered with the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR), Financial Management Association, the Emerging Markets Review, and State Street Corporation to organize the following conferences on emerging markets: Valuation in Emerging Markets (2002), Investing in Emerging Markets (2003), Innovations in Portfolio Management (2004) and Emerging Markets Finance (2005). Intellectual capital generated by these conferences include CD-ROM sets of the highlights of the conferences, special editions of Emerging Markets Review and monographs that summarized the practical issues in the areas of valuation, investing and finance in emerging markets.
