Darden's i.Lab
In the Spring of 2010, Darden and its Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation unveiled their new innovation laboratory, or "i.Lab," a state-of-the-art learning environment that inspires a new approach to teaching innovation and entrepreneurship. The i.Lab is a unique physical learning environment rooted in multidisciplinary thinking and informed by ethnographic, anthropological and other methodologies traditionally used in the social sciences. The structure serves as a physical complement to a new academic discipline offered at Darden rooted in innovation-intensive design.

UVA News 11/23/10
"....Darden professor Jeanne Liedtka , a member of the team, used two design tools described in her upcoming book with Tim Ogilvie, Designing for Growth: A Design Thinking Tool Kit for Managers , to facilitate the process. She used 'journey mapping,' an ethnographic research method to trace the journey of Darden's key stakeholders to develop a deeper understanding of their current experience and how to improve it. She also used 'mind mapping,' a methodology that takes all of the data gathered and uses a visual thinking technique to look for patterns and insights in order to create design criteria."
