Darden's three MBA formats include a variety of experiences for students to study in locations around the world. These academic opportunities in other countries help Darden students develop a rich global perspective on business and build their ability to lead in diverse international settings.

Global Business Experiences
Global Business Experiences (GBEs) are one- to two-week courses led by Darden faculty outside the United States in March and May. Each GBE provides the opportunity to visit a different country and experience its business practices and cultures. Based on a unifying theme, each course includes classes and practitioner presentations as well as visits to companies, governmental agencies and cultural sites. Many GBEs include hands-on consulting with companies in those countries.
Recently, GBEs have been held in Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Israel, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
Global Field Experiences
Global Field Experiences are MBA electives that give small teams of students the opportunity to provide consulting services to an international company or organization while working closely with a Darden faculty member. At the beginning or end of each course, you will visit the company on location to build on-the-ground knowledge and scope the issue at hand.
Darden students have the opportunity to go on exchange for a quarter or semester during their Second Year to one of our 24 partner schools around the world. We also host Second Year exchange students from our partner schools, who add to our vibrant global community at Darden.
International Leadership Residency
As part of the core MBA for Executives curriculum, all members of the cohort spend one week abroad for a leadership residency on “Leading in an Emerging Economy.” Students visit top leadership at companies, engage with faculty at partner universities, and explore the challenges and opportunities for business leaders in an emerging market. Learn more about the international leadership residency.
Global Business Experiences
Executive MBA students can participate alongside full-time MBA students in Global Business Experience electives. These one- to two-week courses held outside of the United States in March and May offer the opportunity to experience new business practices and cultures.
Global Executive MBA
Darden’s Global MBA for Executives (GEMBA) is designed for experienced managers who seek to further their international careers while continuing to work full time. The program focuses on preparing students to be globally ready — ready to manage a business in an international setting and ready to lead an organization that does business in multiple countries. Darden achieves this aim by both the global content of the curriculum and the context in which we deliver it.
Over the course of 21 months, GEMBA students participate in six two-week residencies in China, Europe, India, Brazil and the United States.
Global Leadership Explorations
A major component of each term in the Darden GEMBA program is the inclusion of a series of courses called Global Leadership Explorations (GLEs). These field experiences and non-classroom activities are vital to learning about new countries, cultures, norms and institutions. They bring to life and deepen the academic learning that happens in the classroom.
