Darden MBA for Executives
Class of 2011

What position did you hold prior to starting the Darden MBA for Executives?

Group Vice President, Global Operations at Klöckner Pentaplast

What position were you promoted to either during or after the program?

Vice President and General Manager, PET Films at Klöckner Pentaplast

What Darden career services did you utilize and how did they help you?

Although I was not pursuing a career change at the time, I took advantage of the opportunity to obtain one-on-one career coaching from Connie Whittaker Dunlop, EMBA career counselor. Through my discussions with Connie, I more deeply explored my career interest and skills gaps. As an outcome of this coaching and self-reflection, I pursued a General Manager role that would provide broader experiences across the business.

How did the Darden EMBA help prepare you for your new position?

The Darden MBA for Executives was crucial in preparing me to be successful as a General Manager.

Utilizing the case method in courses such as Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Strategy and General Management, I was able to immerse myself into real-world situations and confront the types of situations actually faced in my new role. By discussing cases and teaming with a cohort of other top-notch executives from various backgrounds, I was able to constantly challenge myself to view situations from many different perspectives.

The special, highly-interactive environment at Darden — led by its world-class faculty — maximized the impact of the discussions and facilitated my ability to readily apply new concepts back into my business.

"I thought the PAC structure was one of the most valuable aspects to the program. I really enjoyed the energy of Connie Dunlop, the course materials and guest speaker perspectives, and the executive coaching. I think this is the first time where I felt I was getting guidance on the aspects of establishing a career path that I want for myself over the lifetime of my working years. I cannot tell you enough how important this is!"
