Biography
Teresa Samala de Guzman is the senior associate dean for finance
and administration for the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. In
this capacity, Terry serves as Darden's chief financial and administrative
officer with responsibilities including the areas of finance, technology, HR,
legal, facilities, library and case collection. Terry has been a strong advocate
for increasing Darden's global perspective and presence. She teaches a
second-year elective on global leadership, and she was instrumental in launching
DART (the Darden ART Project), a visible expression of Darden's diverse and
global community. Committed to sustainability and energy efficiency, Terry leads
Darden's "How We Live and How We Learn" campaign, an ambitious effort to reach
zero waste and carbon neutrality at Darden.
Terry's expertise covers
corporate and not-for profit leadership and organizational management. She
started her career in Finance at American Express, was principal at Kwasha
Lipton and served as CFO for Bellcore's Professional Services business. Prior to
joining Darden, Terry was the associate head of school and chief operating
officer for the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, where she also led
the financing and construction of its LEED-certified campus expansion.
Terry was born and raised in the Philippines, with a B.S. in Accounting from
St. Theresa's College, and is a CPA. She completed her MBA in Finance from New
York University's Stern School of Business. She and her husband, Allen, reside
in Charlottesville and have two grown children, Alexandra and Philip.
