Global MBA for Executives

GEMBA U.S. Residency #1

The first residency of the Global MBA for Executives program will take place at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in Charlottesville, Virginia in August (visit Academic Calendar for proposed dates). During the residency, you’ll meet your GEMBA classmates, professors and staff, you’ll attend case method classes and you’ll visit influential companies and historic sites in Virginia.

Courses taught during "Term 1: Leading the Global Enterprise" and this residency include:

  • Leading Global Organizations
  • Managing Global Processes
  • Understanding Global Markets
  • Decision Analysis
  • Global Leadership Explorations (experiential)

Day 1

Get your bearings in Charlottesville

  • Orientation
    • Meet the GEMBA cohort, faculty and staff 
    • Meet your learning team; team building activities
  • Lunch at the Abbott Center Dining Room
  • Evening reception and dinner at Dean Robert F. Bruner’s home

Days 2 - 4

Days 5 - 7

  • Mixture of class sessions at Darden, company visits and Global Leadership Exploration activities. Altria will be one of the company visits.
  • Other activities to include:
    • MonticelloIntroduction to the legacy of Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States and founder of the University of Virginia. With guidance from experts on Jefferson, you will learn about his home (Monticello), his legacy (the historic Rotunda and University of Virginia Lawn, named a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and his educational philosophy, which will inform your learning experience in the GEMBA program.  
    • Leadership 360: You will take a global leadership 360 instrument to provide you with a starting platform for building leadership capabilities.

  • Day off

Days 12 - 14

  • Mixture of class sessions, company visits and Global Leadership Exploration activities.
  • Friday evening: residency closing dinner
  • Other activities to include:
    • Visit to King Family and Jefferson Vineyards 
    • Guest speakers
