Business has an urgent need to express a renewed story about how it interacts with and contributes to society. It also needs a new generation of leaders with the skills necessary to guide their companies through an environment shaped by complex and often volatile social forces. The Institute for Business in Society (IBiS) at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business was created to address these two challenges.

The Institute for Business in Society aims to be a leading global catalyst and convener of thought, information and action at the interface of business and society, and to promote the development of leaders who positively impact society through business. This is both an ambitious and an exciting goal, and to achieve it, IBiS will bring together the finest minds in business education and thought leadership with prominent industry leaders, regulators and other practitioners to define the role of business in providing lasting value in an increasingly complex global society.
