The Darden academic experience centers around a general management curriculum taught through the case method, which includes case-based classes, experiential learning and simulations.
General management is both the mastery of all elements of business — from accounting to operations, communications to ethics and politics to finance — and the ability to see strategically across all functions. Truly excelling in business requires a thorough understanding of not only how every department in a company runs itself, but also how it interrelates to all other departments.
Darden’s First Year required curriculum provides students with a solid foundation in global business leadership. The integrated curriculum — wherein the same or similar cases are used in several different courses and more than one discipline — illustrates how all areas work together and influence one another. In the electives and concentrations of the Second Year, students develop more depth in chosen areas of expertise and learn through a variety of global experiences and project-based experiential opportunities.
