The mission of the Darden Emerging Markets Development Club is to connect students interested in international development and social enterprise to relevant resources, networks, and career and learning opportunities. A secondary mission is to raise the profile of the Darden School in the international development field at large.
We seek to use business tools and strategies that open opportunities and improve the lives of the world's approximately 4 billion low-income producers and consumers in emerging markets. We believe that innovative and profitable business models can sometimes tackle development challenges more quickly and effectively than government and aid mechanisms.
Topics of interest include the role of enterprise in development, social enterprise, intrapreneurship, livelihoods and job creation, the role of multinational companies in the development process, consulting with entrepreneurs in emerging markets, value investment, and the integration of the world’s poor into formal market economies.
