Charlottesville Area
Synagogues and Congregations
The University of Virginia has a strong and active
Hillel
organization providing a variety of social and cultural resources for all students.
Chabad of Charlottesville
also provides for services and meals every Friday and Saturday, as well as any major holiday.
The local synagogue is
Congregation Beth Israel
which is an active congregation and holds weekly Friday night services (Reform) and Saturday morning services (Conservative) among many other events and activities.
Kosher Food
Hebrew National
packaged deli meats can be purchased at a number of supermarkets including
Harris Teeter
and
Giant
.
Empire
chicken breasts and parts can be purchased at the
Giant
supermarket (whose Pantops location also sells turkey products).
There is no kosher bakery in the area, but several bakeries in the area offer challah on Fridays. Bakeries in town which make challah on Fridays: Albemarle Baking Company, BreadWorks, Chandler's Bakery, Our Daily Bread, and the Whole Foods Market bakery department. Chandler's also offers special items for holidays, such as round challah and honey cake for Rosh Hashanah.
