Once a week, Darden students spend two hours working with other volunteers in the Charlottesville Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. The students help prepare and serve lunch to those in the community who need a hot meal. Working in the soup kitchen is always a lot of fun, and the best part is that we do not have to clean up! You can go one week or every week- whatever your schedule allows. There is a sign up file on the p:drive under outreach so that we know who is going from week to week.
For more information, contact Evan Iverson. Scroll down for the directions to the Soup Kitchen. Sign up to go on the P drive in the Soup Kitchen folder! We need volunteers every Sunday.
- Go down Main St. as if you are going to the downtown district.
- Make a right on Ridge Street – the street right after the greyhound station and before you are officially in the downtown area.
- The Salvation Army is located at 207 Ridge Street (two or three blocks down).
- You’ll need to drive around the block to enter the Soup kitchen area…after you get on Ridge make the first right after the light, then the next right (into a dead end) and you’ll see the lot for the Salvation Army on your right. It won’t take more than 1.5 hours (12:00-1:30). Your responsibilities include helping Lee finish preparation for the meal and serving the guests.
The Salvation Army phone number is 434-295-4058, in case you get lost.
