Value Investors Meet

In the midst of one of the most challenging financial periods in decades, the Darden School of Business and the McIntire School of Commerce have once again teamed up to host the University of Virginia’s Second Annual Virginia Value Investing Conference.

The Conference, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be held Oct. 22 and 23 in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium on the South Lawn and Rouss & Robertson Halls on the East Lawn. Registration for the event is required by Oct. 16.

The mission of the Value Investing Conference is to assemble the investing public, professional investors, scholars, and students in the field of value investing to highlight best practices, honor best practitioners, and discuss new trends and developments in the field.

Darden Dean Robert Bruner, McIntire Dean Carl Zeithaml, and Blue Ridge Capital’s John Griffin will open the conference on Thursday evening at 5 pm. The Conference will feature a Thursday evening keynote presentation by renowned short seller James Chanos of Kynikos Associates (whose timely short position in Enron was recognized by Barron’s as “the market call of the decade, if not the past fifty years”), and a Friday morning Master Investors Panel moderated by John Griffin (McIntire ’85), Founder of Blue Ridge Capital. Also on Friday morning, Richard Mayo (A&S ’64, Darden ’68) will introduce the Value Investment Pitch Competition.
