Governor Appoints Darden Alumnus


Cheng_Jim_2010-01-15_1.bmpVirginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell has appointed a Darden School of Business graduate to his cabinet. Jim Cheng (MBA ’87) has been named deputy secretary of commerce and trade. Cheng’s appointment, along with other senior-level appointments, was announced Wednesday at a news conference in Richmond.

Cheng, a member of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees, is president and owner of CH3 LLC. He has over 20 years of experience in information technology and government contracting and is active in angel investing and early stage entrepreneurial ventures of various types. He serves on two Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees committees--Development and Engagement.

In addition to his work at Darden, Cheng is an active citizen and leader having served on a number boards of non-profits, state and community organizations. Before earning his Darden MBA, Cheng received his bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University. He earned his law degree (J.D.) at Georgetown University.

Founded in 1955, the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business is a professional school that works to improve society by developing leaders of practical affairs.
