Professor Chairs Award-Winning Symposium
Darden Professor Jeanne Liedtka was selected to chair the Academy of Management’s Best Symposium in Management Education and Development (MED) at the academy's meeting in Montréal in August. The symposium, “Finding the Right Side of the MBA Brain: Teaching Design Thinking,” will examine the how and why behind teaching design thinking, at both theoretical and practical levels.

The Wachovia Awards for Excellence in Case Development annually recognize world-class case studies created by Darden School of Business faculty and published by Darden Business Publishing for use in the Darden classroom and at other business schools around the world. R. Edward Freeman Honored as University Professor
The University of Virginia Board of Visitors named Darden School of Business Professor R. Edward Freeman as a University Professor. Freeman, academic director of Darden’s Business Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics, a senior fellow of Darden’s Olsson Center for Applied Ethics and a professor of Religious Studies, is the first faculty member in Darden’s history receive this honor, accorded to less than 20 professors among the more than 2,200 professors at UVA.

PLE Awards Credentials to Principals
The Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education (PLE) awarded “School Turnaround Specialist Credentials” to nine principals from Louisiana and North Dakota during a ceremony held at the Rotunda on January 20th. The principals earned this credential by completing all aspects of the two-year UVA-School Turnaround Specialist Program, significantly raising student achievement in schools that had been chronically low-performing.

New Governor Appoints Darden Alumnus to Cabinet
Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell named Jim Cheng (MBA ’87) his deputy secretary of commerce and trade. Cheng serves on two Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees committees and is president and owner of CH3 LLC.
