Becoming a Sought-After Scholar

Graduates of the Darden School of Business' Doctoral Program are young scholars who are sought after by the world's leading business schools. We believe that developing the next generation of leading thinkers is a critical part of our mission to develop leaders for the world of practical affairs.

Scholars learn by doing, and opportunities for growth are built into our program. Doctoral students are expected to work in partnership with faculty as research assistants throughout their time at the School. When graduates take their first academic position, they are already well on their way to becoming stars in the classroom.

These critical career development activities do not happen in a vacuum. Students identify a mentor early on in the program, preferably in their area of emphasis, and develop their program of study in conjunction with their mentor. Together, these commitments make for a program that is the hallmark of teaching research excellence.
