CEI Community Ventures finances growth firms in New England. CEI Community Ventures is a New Markets Venture Capital firm. Prior to joining CEI Community Ventures, most of Gurau’s venture capital career was spent with Advent International, in London and Boston. He has start-up experience in product management, marketing and strategy with Silknet Software (Kana Communications). Prior to Silknet, Gurau was General Manager of Living Balance, a direct mail and e-commerce firm. Michael is presently raising a new venture capital fund — Clear Venture Partners, wholly unaffiliated to CEI Community Ventures — that will target secondary cities in New England.

Virginia Community Capital (VCC) is a multi-million-dollar non-profit community development financial institution (CDFI) and banking entity providing innovative loan and investment solutions for affordable housing and economic development projects in the Commonwealth of Virginia.Ms. Henderson is also chair of the Community Development Advisory Council, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.Ms. Henderson is a former community development officer with Wachovia and Dominion banks (1988–2005). 

Maurice Jones

The Virginian-Pilot is the largest daily newspaper based in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its related companies include two local news websites, Targeted Publications + Media, a collection of 20 niche publications (print and online), and Pilot Direct, a direct marketing company. Mr. Jones's prior experience includes work as Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the U.S. Treasury and as Director of the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. He served the Commonwealth of Virginia under former Governor Mark Warner as Deputy Chief of Staff and Commissioner of Social Services. He is a Rhodes Scholar and a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law (1992). 

Jim Johnson

Director, Urban Investment Strategies Center, Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise; William R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, University of North Carolina

Dr. Johnson's research focuses on the causes and consequences of growing inequality in American society, particularly as it affects socially and economically disadvantaged youth; entrepreneurial approaches to poverty alleviation, job creation, and community development; interethnic minority conflict in advanced industrial societies; and business demography and workforce diversity issues. Fast Company profiled Dr. Johnson and his work. He has published more than 100 scholarly research articles and three research monographs and has co-edited four theme issues of scholarly journals on these and related topics.  

Mark Kilduff  

Mark Kilduff (MBA '66)

Economic Development Consultant, New Kent County, Virginia

Mr. Kilduff has worked in economic development since 1967, when he began work as an economist for Virginia’s Division of Industrial Development. He eventually became director of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and has served as director of industrial development and was responsible for the division’s economic research and analytic services, the preparation of promotional materials, the management of the division’s national and international advertising programs and Virginia’s overall marketing effort. 

Lem Lewis

Chairman, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond

Mr. Lewis, now retired, served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Landmark Communications, Inc., a privately held media company, from January 2000 to July 2006. He serves as Chairman of the Board, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, and Director of the Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., as well as Markel Corporation.
