With over 20 years of experience leading at the intersection of people and strategy for organizations like Google, National Geographic and management consulting, Mariel Furlong (MBA '13) helps leaders and teams confidently navigate transitions.

Mariel began her career as a journalist, spending five years at National Geographic magazine before transitioning to corporate strategy. She worked in management consulting focusing on business transformation, change management and new product introduction for clients in life sciences, media & technology, education and non-profit sectors.

Mariel joined Google in 2015 and spent the next decade working across its Cloud, YouTube and Hardware divisions. Her roles there included corporate strategist, product marketing manager and chief of staff. Drawing from her experiences across industries, functions, modalities (hardware, software, B2B and B2C), Mariel launched Salamander Services, LLC in 2025. Her services include one-on-one executive and team coaching, group workshops, strategy consulting and career transition coaching.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Darden.
