Rita Gunn

Rita Gunn is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration in the Accounting area at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. Her research examines how financial reporting and corporate disclosures shape investor behavior, market outcomes and firm decisions, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and the distinctive accounting and information environments surrounding these transactions.
At Darden, Gunn teaches the first-year core Accounting for Managers course in the residential MBA program and the Taxation and Management Decisions elective, as well as courses in Executive Education.

Gunn earned her Ph.D. in Accounting from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and her B.S. in Accounting and B.A. in Economics from North Carolina State University, where she graduated as valedictorian. Before joining Darden, she was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management. She has served as an expert witness in a state income tax matter involving cost classification and allocation, and previously worked as a bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, assessing the financial condition, risk management and regulatory compliance of financial institutions.
