Shuaiyu Chen is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Darden School of Business. He joined Darden in 2025 after serving on the faculty of the Mitch Daniels School of Business at Purdue University. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Johns Hopkins University.

Chen’s research focuses on financial markets, institutional portfolio managers, investor behavior, and the applications of machine learning in finance. His work has received several awards, including the Best Paper Prize at the Annual Conference in Financial Economics Research (2023), the Best Paper Award in Corporate Finance and Financial Intermediation from the Northern Finance Association (2023), and the Best Paper in Derivatives & Options at the Financial Management Association (2024).

At Darden, Chen teaches Financial Management and Policy I and Quantitative Portfolio Management in the MBA program. Previously at Purdue, he taught Investment Management and Financial Data Analysis and Modeling at both the undergraduate and M.S. in Finance levels. He was recognized by students as one of their most highly regarded professors, reflecting his commitment to impactful teaching and mentoring.
