Uday Gupta is a Professor of Practice at the UVA Darden School of Business, where he teaches "Leading Corporate Innovation," and at UVA's Department of Systems and Information Engineering, where he teaches Strategic Innovation & Entrepreneurship. In the classroom, he draws on three decades of experience as an entrepreneur and executive leader who has built, launched, and grown companies across biotech, agtech, and financial services.

Gupta currently serves as CFO/COO of Adovate, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company advancing adenosine receptor modulation therapies, where he sits in the C-suite driving corporate strategy alongside finance and operations. He began his career as an analyst on Standard & Poor's Structured Finance team, then worked as a management consultant advising C-suite executives in the telecommunications, financial services, and manufacturing industries, before co-founding and leading multiple ventures, including a biotechnology company built around 3D cell culture technology and a bio-agriculture firm commercializing new formats of prebiotic fibers as an ingredient, taking each from early-stage product development through institutional financing and commercial growth. He went on to hold leadership roles, including fundraising, at Centerline Biomedical, a Cleveland Clinic spin-off, and to lead product and program management for Treasury Management and Commercial Card at Capital One.

Beyond the classroom and the C-suite, Gupta is active in his community: he is on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia, supporting youth mentorship and enrichment programs, and mentors student entrepreneurs at UVA Darden's iLab, the school's venture accelerator.

Gupta holds an MBA from the University of Virginia and a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. His work has been recognized with a 40 Under 40 honor and a GAP 50 Entrepreneur Award, and he was selected to participate in DSM's Partnering Innovation Program. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.
