Professor Emeritus James Clawson has published a number of books, including: Fundamentals of Level Three Leadership (Business Expert Press, June 2021), Finding FIT (a comprehensive web-based approach to job searches); Level Three Leadership 1-5th eds; Powered by Feel: How Individuals, Teams, and Companies Excel (with Doug Newburg); Balancing your Life: Executive Lessons for Work, Family and Self; Teaching Management (with Mark Haskins); and Creating a Learning Culture (with Marcia Conner). Professor Clawson retired from active teaching at Darden in early 2014.
Clawson's research addresses issues of leadership, career management, management development and mentoring. He has authored 23 book-length manuscripts and numerous articles and has written or supervised the writing of more than 300 cases on a variety of topics. Clawson has consulted with a number of corporations and organizations all over the world (North America, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa) on leadership development, organizational design, management development, career management, managing change and human resource management. He also has taught at the International University of Japan as a visiting professor.
In 2009, he was named the David L. Bradford Educator of the Year by the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society and Reviewer of the Year by the Academy of Management Learning and Education Journal. Before joining the Darden faculty in 1981, Clawson taught at the Harvard Business School, worked as a functional trainer for Mobil Oil Company in Japan and served as an international banking officer for Wells Fargo Bank.
